I’m Canadian born and have for my entire life lived in South-Western Ontairo. In fact, I’ve never been so far as to leave SW Ontario except to visit my grandmother in Michigan, once, when I was 4 years old.

My current home’s being sold, and come Spring I need to find new lodgings. Housing prices have turned to shit in my city though, so I don’t know how I’d make it without roommates, and I flat-out cannot have strangers as roommates again.

I spoke to a friend who wanted to move out from his parents’ and into Montreal (a couple hours from his parents’ place). He got pretty excited learning that I’d be having to move and asked if I’d join him.

I’ve been here my entire life, but in the last decade, my mental health’s gone from bad to worse. The city’s garbage, there’s literally nothing here, the downtown’s actually dead, housing’s ridic, and I’m unhappy and alone. The opportunity to leave is scary, but I’m more afraid of being stuck. A few people especially close to me know about this fear.

So, I’m gonna do it. I think. Unless something big happens before the new year, I’m gonna take this change. Find new horizons, experience a different culture, and be something else than this trajectory I’m on. I’ve spent a couple years working on my mental faculties, building them up to something stronger and more capable of doing what needs to be done, but now I have the opportunity to engage in something.

This move’s gonna be a good thing for me. It’s going to be less alone, more exciting. Since we’re going to Montreal though, I’m gonna have to learn French. I started an online course today, and I’m gonna keep up with it and try practicing.

I’m gonna try engaging in posts here more, and do some basic writing in French as practice, so please forgive me for that! And forgive my mistakes I’ll inevitably make; it’s just me trying to paw my way through learning!
